Under the direction of the Director or designee, the Clinical Documentation Specialist Supervisor will be responsible for day-to-day supervision of the clinical documentation improvement RNs and the related CDI program. Will work in conjunction with Care Coordination, Coding and Quality Management departments, physicians, mid-level providers and other health team members to serve as a resource to physicians to ensure that their documentation in the record is translated into ICD-10-CM codes that accurately reflect the diagnoses, procedures, severity of illness and risk of mortality their patients are experiencing. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
Supervises Clinical Documentation Improvement co-workers. Improve clinical documentation specificity by educating providers (physicians and advanced practice professionals) about how their documentation reflects their patients' diagnoses, procedures, severity of illness and risk of mortality as translated into ICD-10-CM codes. Additionally, this includes assisting with educating providers how their documentation communicates the medical necessity of inpatient or outpatient admission. This is achieved via face-to-face communication, presenting to groups of providers and via concurrent and post-discharge queries. Also, prepares utilization analyses, provider profiles and interprets data for reimbursement applications. Also, serves as a clinical resource to the Coding department, providing education as needed.

Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing Licensure: RN Experience: 3 year experience working as a Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist. 5 years acute care experience. Certification/Registration: CCDS, CDIP, or comparable Computer Skills: Excel, Power Point, Presentation Skills, Word, SharePoint Ability to adhere to AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association) Code of Ethics, AHIMA's Ethical Standards for Clinical Documentation Improvement and AHIMA's Ethical Standards for Coding Knowledgeable of ICD-10-CM national coding guidelines Ability to interact confidently with physicians, both one-on-one and presenting information to groups of physicians Ability to review, prepare and synthesize data for presentations Possesses excellent time management skills, is flexible and able to work in fast-paced environment.
